Harvest Helpers

Updated: Nov 4, 2023

We’ve been harvesting the Vicars of Winkfield pears this week. Atlas and Roxy love hanging out and watching the action. But it’s been hard to keep Roxy away from the pears ever since she’s discovered their great taste!

The Vicar of Winkfield are best used for culinary purposes or perry, but can also be used for stewing and jams. This is an heirloom French variety that was first found around 1760. It is a large pear with greenish-yellow skin, a faint brownish-red blush, and some russeting. This rare late-season pear has a white, dry, firm flesh, and a slight musky aroma.
